Personal Admission Procedures

Admission to the CTP has certain formal requirements but is a personal process that includes an evaluation of a candidate's motivation and readiness.

The CTP faculty is available to applicants to assist in determining whether the CTP is for them the appropriate environment in which to pursue the study of the art of psychotherapy. This decision involves cooperation between the applicant and the faculty over a period of time. The applicant submits an autobiography and two written references. All application materials must be received by June 30th. Three faculty members each interview the applicant. The faculty hopes that the cooperation thus begun will develop and mature during the candidate's course of study.

The application process begins with a careful reading of the CTP brochure, which can be obtained by directly downloading from this site, or by phoning The Centre switchboard at 416-964-3690. Ordinarily applicants are at least 30 years of age, with sufficient life experience to undertake a rigorous training in psychotherapy.

An initial information interview with a CTP faculty member is required and can be arranged by phoning 416-964-3690. This interview is intended to answer questions and to explore the potential applicant’s suitability for the program. If encouraged to apply, the applicant can then make arrangements to attend a Monday evening Foundation lecture in order to experience CTP faculty and students together in a learning situation. The applicant is encouraged to speak with students in the coffee break that evening to elicit their experiences of the CTP.
